After tumbling, here are a variety of stones from the beach. Some beautiful blacks, grays and greens here as well as reddish brown. I'm sorting right now to make some earring sets. They make very elegant earrings. The solid color ones are nice, as are some of the speckled varieties. I'll post some finished jewelry in a few weeks.

I use a small rock tumbler with various sized grits. It takes several weeks to tumble the stones, and the results are always interesting and surprising. I have to tumble many stones to have enough selection to make matches in size and color for pairs of earrings, but it's worth the effort. Beach stones are already tumbled by the sand and surf, so you have an idea of what they will look like when finished.
I also use beach glass in jewelry; again, you have to collect a lot to get matches in size and color for earrings. The blues, greens and browns are particularly attractive in earrings and pendants and can be used in wire wrapped jewelry as well. (See my blog-averill mountain crafts- for a picture of such a set.)
I haven't looked at your blog in a while Carol, but just looking at it now reminds me of what I've been missing! Your jewelry is beautiful and I love the pastel portrait too. I didn't know you played the cello!
I'll be checking out your blog more often from now on!
