Pond Friends Stacking Toy

Found this pattern on www.lionbrand.com and thought it would be a cute gift for the baby shower I'm going to. It's a stacking toy there is a frog,dragonfly, ladybug ,bee and the bottom is the pond with lily pads and flowers.

Freshly Dug Parsnips

Now that our garden is completely free of snow, I began to think about the parsnips I had overwintered and decided to see if the ground had thawed enough to dig up a few. Amazingly it had! What a wonderful thing to harvest something so early. As you can see, some of them are quite small, so I'm thinking I should have thinned them out like carrots. There's always something new to learn when it comes to gardening!

Abacus

Hi, This three dimensional abacus makes a game out of counting. And it's a cinch to assemble. I made it from a pine board, dowels and some colored beads.

Bird Shelter

Just wanted to show a new bird shelter I made using twine and small twigs. I weaved the small twigs into the wren house along with the twine. Some of the small twigs are sticking out but I love the look. My daughter Jessica loves it too.

Felted Hat....Finally

Felting a hat starts with crocheting the hat larger than your head, but not like this! This could fit an elephant. It did not felt enough to fit my head. Apparently my front loading washing machine did not agitate the wool enough. My guess is that too many stitches went into this, ie not paying attention to the intstructions, or the gauge.
My friend had a felted hat that was just like mine, only it fit me! She gave it to me because she felt so bad about my over-sized hat. First the hat was cut, then the two edges were overlapped to fit my head.
A piece of felted hat was removed after the hat was fit to my head. The extra piece will be made into a wrist cuff.
Felt does not unravel if you cut it, and it is easy to sew. The two edges were sewn to together from the inside, then whipstitched together on the outside to pull the two edges together. You can barely notice the seem now.

Here it is. It is still larger than I would like, but it has a sort of "Annie Hall " feel to it. And of course is the the warmest hat I own. I don't think I will make another one.

Cobweb Broom

Carolyn gave me some broomcorn stalk to try to make a broom. I made a tying wheel to keep twine tight and found a stick for handle. I had to soak broomcorn stalk for 1/2 hours in hot water to soften.It was pretty easy to assemble after that. Jessica thinks it looks like a witches broom.

Baby Sweater

This is my favorite crochet pattern for a baby
sweater. I have a baby shower to go to in a couple weeks and I hope she
like it as much as I liked making it. I made one in mutli colors for my great
niece a couple years ago. It's such any easy pattern and works up in just a
few hours.

Felted Heart

As a gift for a friend whose birthday was today, I made this needle felted heart and hung it in the center of a grapevine wreath. I was happy with the lovely results of such a simple handmade gift. I used a small heart cookie cutter as a template for the heart, which took about 15 minutes to felt.

Mud season has begun, so can Spring be very far behind? Carolyn and I just picked up our garden seeds yesterday, and I've begun to think about fresh garden veggies again. Here's a couple card designs portraying some of my favorite garden delights!
